As we age, it’s natural to develop dark spots or areas of hyperpigmentation on the skin. While usually harmless, these areas of pigmented skin can make us feel self-conscious about our appearance.

Skin Lightening Creams for Dark Spots and Hyperpigmentation

To remedy the situation, many people turn to use skin lightening creams. Some of the most effective ingredients used to fight dark spots on skin contain hydroquinone,  a well-established bleaching agent used to lighten liver spots, age spots, brown spots, and other pigmentation on face. With the right products in your beauty arsenal, you can achieve a more even skin tone and a boost in confidence.

Pigmentation Treatment

To fight signs of aging and achieve skin brightening, we offer our Dr. Sylvia Advanced Clear Skin Program. After cleansing and toning, this five step skin care lightening program consists of a skin lightener (#3), exfoliator forte (#4), and skin balancer (#5). Together, these medical-grade skin care products work together to create a highly-effective hyperpigmentation treatment.

Skin Lightener #3

Skin lighteners work by reducing the amount of melanin in the skin where applied. The process is safe and effective, making it an excellent solution for those who desire pigmentation removal they can do at home. As not all skin lighteners are made with the same active ingredients, it’s important to choose wisely. The Skin Lightener in our Dr. Sylvia Skin Care line contains 4 percent hydroquinone to correct undesirable pigmentation, such as freckles and age spots. Just apply a thin layer to the area of skin you want to lighten in the morning and evening.

Exfoliator Forte #4

Exfoliation goes hand-in-hand with skin lightening. To achieve a more youthful complexion, it’s important to exfoliate the skin to remove dead skin cells and uncover fresh, new skin. The Exfoliator Forte from Dr. Sylvia Skin Care is designed to improve skin texture for smoother, clearer skin. The powerful exfoliating cream contains 14 percent alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) with a pH level of 3.4 which is suitable for sensitive, normal, oily, and mature skin. Just a once a day application in the morning is all that’s required.

Skin Balancer #5

The final step in the Dr. Sylvia’s Advanced Clear Skin Program is the Balancer. Containing 4 percent hydroquinone, the Balancer works in the deeper layer of the skin to lighten dark areas on the skin such as liver spots, age spots, and freckles. This enriching agent works well as a skin lightening cream and requires only a thin application in the evenings.

It is very important to take note that the suitable pigmentation treatment for you may also depend on the depth of pigmentation that you may have. It is best to consult Dr. Sylvia Ramirez, our Harvard-trained and US Board Certified doctor, to know if you are a good candidate for this lightening treatment program.

Moreover, these lightening treatments are only available by prescription as it contains prescription-strength hydroquinone.

With all the products mentioned, it’s important to limit sun exposure. When out in the sun, be sure to use sunblock and wear protective clothing over the bleached skin to prevent the darkening from reoccurring. If used as directed, you can help keep those brown spots on face at bay.

Hyperpigmentation on the skin can make us feel less confident about the way we look. Fortunately, there are many products on the market that can help reduce the look of age spots and other types of unwanted pigmentation. When used consistently and with proper consultation by a Board Certified doctor, you can attain a more even-toned complexion with a youthful glow.
